One of the things I most love about Scripture is the simplicity and power of using specific verses in my prayers and as my prayers. Scripture is living and active (Hebrews 4:12) which means it is powerful. In addition, God watches over His Word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).
And what could be better than that?
Today I want to share one of my all-time favorite verses – it’s helpful to pray over all our relationships, but this is one that I regularly pray over my marriage. I keep it on a 3×5 card taped onto my fridge near the water dispenser… a simple and effective reminder to PRAY it. If you prefer, you can jot it down in your Bible, or leave it on the nightstand next to your bed. The point isn’t where you have the verse, but that you pray the verse.
Here’s the verse:
Be joyful. Grow to maturity. Encourage each other. Live in harmony and peace.
(2 Corinthians 13:11) (NLT)
Here’s how I pray it:
Lord, will you please enable Keith and I, by Your great grace, to be consistently joyful? We need your joy! Help us grow to maturity, to regularly encourage each other, and to do our best to live in harmony and peace. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
That’s it! It’s simple and it’s a powerful, Scripture-based prayer for you to regularly pray over yourself, your marriage, and/or your entire family.
Happy Praying!
